What is PECOS?
PECOS (Provider Enrollment and Chain/Ownership System) is the electronic portal
through which physicians enroll in Medicare. Some Medicare-enrolled physicians do
not have current records in PECOS because they have not submitted any enrollment
information updates to Medicare since November 2003.
Use this search to determine if you have registered with the Centers for Medicare
& Medicaid Services (CMS) PECOS program.
**NOTE: PECOS does not include physician nicknames. Example - Robert Smith, MD practicing
as Bob Smith, MD, will be in PECOS as Robert Smith, MD**
Due to technical issues, implementation of the Phase 2 ordering and referring denial
edits is being delayed. [Read More]

CMS updates the data file for PECOS once a week and the results showing are from
the most recent file update. This is based on a CMS data file and, therefore, is
not warranted or guaranteed. If you have questions about your PECOS status contact
your local Medicare Administrative Contractor.
